When things feel tough,

discover what you're made of and move forward on your terms.

Resilience coaching for testing times...

When we're struggling with life's challenges, setbacks or pressures, resilience is undoubtedly the key to helping us move forward well.

While it enables us to keep going when things get tough, research has found that it also safeguards our mental health and wellbeing - allowing us to cope with difficulties in ways that serve us rather than drag us down.

However, resilience is not a magic quality held only by a special few. Regardless of who we are or what's going on in our lives, it is something we can all develop and strengthen – ensuring we live life on our terms and thrive, even when stressors or setbacks get in our way.

Cothan's mission, therefore, is to help you supercharge your resilience and find out what you're made of in demanding times - enabling you, through professional and accredited coaching, to:

  • Boost your coping resources leaving you better equipped to deal with whatever life throws at you, both now and in the future.

  • Harness your strengths and capabilities increasing your belief in yourself and your ability to cope in any situation.

  • Find new, more powerful ways of tackling your circumstances  giving you back a sense of control, even when things seem overwhelming.

  • Challenge resilience-undermining beliefs or behaviours  replacing them with new, more helpful strategies and ways of thinking that help you move forward rather than hold you back.

  • Reconnect to what's important to you so you know your priorities longer-term and can use these to light your way in uncertain or stressful times.

Not sure whether resilience coaching is right for you?

Resilience coaching is:

  • About moving forward from where you are now - instead of lingering in the past, resilience coaching focuses on what's going on in your life currently, as well as where you would like to be. While past experiences may be considered, we will only do so if they still impact your resilience and prevent you from moving past your present challenges. â€‹

  • Driven by you - you won't be told what to do, prescribed advice or guided in any particular direction. Instead, we work together to find solutions and strategies that are right for you - helping you overcome life's challenges in ways that enable you to thrive.

  • Not about 'fixing' you or your situation - instead, resilience coaching helps you to build on your own strengths and coping resources and apply these in ways that will help you negotiate both current and future challenges or stressors more effectively.

  • Not the same as counselling or therapy - whilst it can support your psychological wellbeing and help you to manage stressors more effectively, it does not offer treatment for mental health disorders. Therefore, if you are experiencing issues such as severe or ongoing emotional distress or anxiety or have recently experienced traumatic events, it is vital that you initially seek support from your G.P. or a counselling professional.

How does resilience coaching work?

Although it may seem daunting, resilience coaching simply offers an open, non-judgemental and non-pressurised space for you to effectively tackle your situation on your terms.

Firstly, we start by looking at the challenges and stressors you face - so that we can see them more clearly and understand the best ways to approach them.

We then develop a plan of action - using evidence-based tools and strategies that will help boost your wellbeing and resilience and enable you to cope like a pro in challenging times.

Hello, my name is Kerry Scott-Gillett...

I am a professionally trained coach and mentor, having studied at the University of Warwick, and I also hold a first-class honours degree in Social Psychology.

I am a member of the British Psychological Society's Division of Coaching Psychology and am accredited as a coaching practitioner by the European Coaching and Mentoring Council.

I have worked with young people and adults since 2017 and am currently a wellbeing coach for Project5 - a not-for-profit organisation supporting the resilience and wellbeing of NHS staff in these challenging times (you can read what other lovely people say about me here).

I have also successfully overcome significant challenges in my life and know from first-hand experience how important resilience is in helping us move forward well when things are tough. However, I also know how easy it is to underestimate our capacity for resilience when the chips are down. Therefore, I am passionate about helping you uncover what you are made of in demanding times, enabling you to move past your challenges on your terms.

You can find out more about me here.

When you choose Cothan, you are also helping to fund free coaching and mentoring sessions for young people who have either been in care or experienced other challenges in their lives - so not only do you benefit, but you'll be positively supporting someone else's future too. Find out more here.
